Abstract (EN)
Acute diarrhea is one of the most common clinical findings in dogs. Acute diarrhea, which has a multifactorial origin, is an important cause of morbidity and mortality, especially in puppies. Acute diarrhea tends to develop into chronic enteropathies if not managed appropriately. One of the most common causes of acute diarrhea is diarrhea caused by infectious agents. Therefore, the use of both specific and empirical antibiotics in addition to supportive treatment is a common practice in clinical practice. The aim of this thesis was to compare the clinical efficacy of probiotic and synbiotic strains with antibiotics in the treatment of acute diarrhea. The dogs in the study were divided into four groups. The first group received cefazolin sodium in addition to supportive treatment, the second group received Enteroccus faecium, the third group received Enterococcus faecium, Bacillus coagulans, Lactobacillus acidophilus strains with fructooligosaccharide and mannanoligosaccharide, and the fourth group received Saccharomyces boulardii strains. As a result, it was concluded that Saccharomyces boulardii strain was the most effective treatment for both normalization of fecal consistency and removal of oxidative damage.
