Abstract (EN)

Introduction and Aim: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is an acute inflammatory disease of the pancreas accompanied by clinical, laboratory, inflammatory and radiological findings. Our aim in this study was to retrospectively examine the clinical, laboratory and imaging images of patients hospitalized in the Gastroenterology service of İnönü University with the diagnosis of AP and to examine the effects of these clinical features on the severity of the disease, the development of complications, length of stay and prognosis. Materials and methods: We retrospectively analyzed 709 patients who applied to Malatya İnönü University Faculty of Medicine Gastroenterology clinic between January 2009 and September 2021 and were diagnosed with AP. Demographic characteristics, comorbidities, mortality status, etiological factors, laboratory data of the patients diagnosed with AP were examined and the clinical status of the patients were compared according to the severity of the disease, laboratory data and outcome. Results: A total of 709 patients with AP, 290 (40.9%) male and 419 (59.1%) female, were included in the study. The mean age of the patients was found to be 62.5±18.6 years. When the etiologies of the patients were examined, 167 (23.6%) were idiopathic, 316 (44.6%) biliary, 30 (4.2%) drugs, 38 (5.4%) malignancy, 55 patients. Alcohol (7.8%), 20 (2.8%) hyperlipidemia, 1 (0.1%) pancreatic divisum, and 82 (11.6%) post-ERCP pancreatitis. When the patients were analyzed according to the Atlanta classification, 520 (80.2%) were mild, 120 (18.5%) were moderate, and 8 (1.2%) were severe. In addition, we found that mortality was higher in those with high CRP/albumin values. When examined in terms of presence of exitus, no significant difference was observed in terms of age and gender. We found that mortality rates increased with increasing score in Atlanta and SIRS grading. Conclusion: As a result of these findings, knowing the clinical, laboratory, imaging and demographic characteristics of AP may enable us to understand its effects on the length of stay and prognosis of the disease. Keywords: Acute pancreatitis, etiology, prognosis
