SUMMARY PhD Thesis THE MACHINABILITY INVESTIGATION OF Al Si7 Mg2/SiCp METAL MATRIX COMPOSITES ErolKILIÇKAP Fırat University Graduate Scool of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Machanical Engineering i 2003, Page:251 Composite materials have found wide applications in automotive, nuclear and aerospace industries, because of their physical and mechanical properties. Their wear and friction resistances, and lightness provide major advantages. Increase of composite materials applications in various industries brought machining of these materials, but the use of these materials is not expected level. This is due to production and machining problems. In this study, MMC containing 5% and 15% SiCp were produced and then the physical and mechanical properties of the composites were determined. Homogenization and aging heat treatments processes were applied and then turning process was used. The experimental investigation carried out by using various material types such as not-treated, heat treated, homoginezed and aged. The effects of cutting speed, feed, depth of cut and cryogenic coolant application on tool wear and surface roughness were examined. In all machining, K 10 grade cutting tools (uncoated and TiN coated) were used at different machining parameters (cutting speeds of 50, 100 and 150 m/min; feeds of 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 mm/rev and depths of cut of 0.5, 1 and 1.5 mm ). Mathematical model was obtained by using factorial regression analysis method. For this purpose, experiments were concluded depending on experimental planning and tool wear and surface roughness equations were obtained by the method.
