Abstract (EN)
The gradually industrialization and motorization of the world resulted in immensely rise of demand of petroleum oriented fuels. Petroleum-based fuels are obtained from limited reserves. These limited reserves are intensify on particular places in the world. Thus, countries which have not these reserves, face energy/foreign exchange crisis primarily due to the import of crude petroleum. However,the known fossil fuel resources are diminishing and the use of fossil fuels causes global warming, acid rains and environmental pollution. Therefore, studies on renewable energy sources and alternative fuels have been carried out in the world.The petroleum diesel fuel is the basic energy source of transportation sector and used in diesel engines. Biodiesel fuel, which can be produced from animal and vegetable oil, is an important alternative renewable fuel for diesel engines.In this study, biodiesel has produced from trout oil by alkali- transesterification method . Methanol as an alcohol and sodium hydroxide as a catalyst were used in the transesterification reaction.The produced biodiesel was blended in %10, %20,%40,%50 (in volume) with diesel fuel. The blends were tested in a four cycle, 1 cylinder, air cooled, indirect injection (IDI) Diesel engine. The effects of biodiesel addition to Diesel No. 2 on the performance of the engine were examined at full load. Emissions were tested at variable load. Also results determined with referance fuel results.Experimental results showed that the produced biodiesel can be partially substituted for the diesel fuel at most operating conditions in terms of the performance parameters and emissions without any engine modification and preheating of the blends.
