Local tourism policy problems experienced in Alanya after 2010 and solution suggestions

Tourism is a locomotive sector that revitalizes the economy due to the creation of tax areas, increasing employment, providing foreign currency inflow and positive contributions to the balance of payments. Due to this feature of tourism and its significant effects on other sectors, it should be considered as a separate policy. In this context, the aim of the study is to identify the problems related to local tourism policies in Alanya from 2010 to the present and to offer suggestions for the preparation of more efficient policies in the future. The study contains important data in terms of identifying the actors involved in the creation and implementation of tourism policies at the local level and revealing the participatory relationships between these actors. The phenomenological pattern, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. Semi-structured interview method was used as a data collection tool. Within the scope of the interview, in-depth interviews were held with public and private sector actors who are effective in creating local tourism policies in Alanya, using purposeful sampling technique. The data obtained because of the interviews were analysed using descriptive analysis and content analysis methods. As a result, it has been understood that the actors involved in the creation of the local tourism policy in Alanya are not actively included in this process to the necessary extent and the non-governmental organizations (NGO) in the destination cannot benefit from transparent and observable corporate management techniques in their activities.
