Alanya'da su yönetimi problemleri ve çözüm önerileri

The efficient management of water resources is of great importance for sustainable living. However, water resources are diminishing due to climate change and drought. In this regard, necessary measures must be taken to use water more efficiently, particularly in the agriculture sector, which is the largest consumer of water, as well as in the domestic and industrial sectors. This study utilizes a SWOT analysis to identify the water management problems and propose solutions in the Alanya district of Antalya. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews with decision-makers and managers working in public institutions and organizations responsible for water management in the district (e.g., the District Directorate of Agriculture, municipality, the District Directorate of State Hydraulic Works). The analyses revealed that the most significant problems in Alanya include insufficient and irregular rainfall, uncontrolled use of groundwater, increasing population and tourism (resulting in high per capita water consumption), urbanization, cultivation of plants with high water consumption, and irrigation with open channels. According to the SWOT analysis of public institutions and organizations, possible solutions to Alanya's existing problems include the use of modern irrigation systems, cultivation of tropical fruits with low water consumption, reuse of wastewater, development of groundwater resource usage, and raising awareness and providing education on water use.
