Abstract (EN)

This study aims at positioning Alban Berg's Op. 1 Piano Sonata in the context of the historical development of music, and examining it within the framework of the basic trends in Berg's composition. Op. 1 Piano Sonata, which can be included in expressionism, is a piece that borders on atonality. It has an intensive musical language that does not give in to the performer presently. The goal of providing structural clues for Op. 1 Piano Sonata, which is not performed very often in Turkey, is pursued with this study. Presented analysis and performance guideline aspire to approach this early twentieth century piece that deeply influenced contemporary music.
