Abstract (EN)

There is a hoard, consisting of 581 bronze coins, registered to the special collection belonged to Mr. MUSTAFA DEMIR, who dealing with collection works under control of Gaziantep Museum Directorate. Upon the said collector stated that I can work on the artifacts as a Museum Expert, the pre-investigation was made on the artifacts and on purpose of introduction of the artifacts to Archeological Science World, was selected as Master Degree Dissertation Subject and consent of the collection holder was taken for this study. Under preparation studies of dissertation, for better classification and evaluation of 581 coins, taken place in the said hoard restoration and conservation of the artifacts was completed. Artifacts, which restoration and conservations were completed, were registered in inventory under dissertation study and their photos were taken, they were classified and their scientific catalogue was prepared. At examinations and evaluations made after this study, it was found that this hoard belongs to colony named "Colonia Augusta Troas/Troadensis" which known that established at Roman Empire, Augustus Age, located at Canakkale City, Ezine District; therefore, this 581-coin group named Alexandria Troas hoard shows very similarity with "Smintheion Hoard" gained in 1998 upon excavation, executed under control of Prof. Dr. COSKUN OZGUNEL at Smintheion and prepared for publishing by Prof. Dr. ZEYNEP CIZMELI OGUN and they are contemporary. Moreover, at this study, information about location, historical and geographic status of Alexandria Troas City were submitted as well as numismatic information such as coins description, usage, Roman Age coin specifications.
