Abstract (EN)
The subject of this study is to evaluate the potential relationship of individuals' perceived parenting styles with cognitive emotion regulation and personality structures. Parenting styles characterize the general emotional climate that parents create within the family, which is stable over time and in a wide variety of situations. Emotion regulation is defined as behaviors, skills, and strategies that modulate, inhibit, and enhance emotional experiences and expressions to meet situational demands and achieve personal goals. Personality traits reflect the characteristic thoughts, feelings and behaviors of people. This research covers these three concepts. In this study, it was conducted to determine to what extent perceived parental attitudes affect the personality structures and cognitive emotion regulation strategies of the individual. 400 participants voluntarily participated in this research with a relational screening design. According to the results of the research, the participants think that their parents have a democratic attitude; participants have above-average emotion regulation skills, and participants have below-average personality belief scores. While there is a negative relationship between democratic parental attitudes and personality beliefs, there is a positive relationship with other attitudes. It was determined that democratic parental attitudes were positively correlated with positive cognitive skills and negatively correlated with negative skills. This study proposes to develop a program for the development of democratic parenting skills. It is also among the suggestions that these programs aim to develop emotion regulation skills.
