The effect of perceived social support on postpartum comfort

Aim: The research was carried out to determine the effect of perceived social support of postpartum women on postpartum comfort levels. Material and Method: This descriptive and correlational study was conducted in Sivas Numune Hospital, Obstetrics and Gynecology Services. The sample of the study consisted of 320 women in the postpartum period. Introductory Information Form, Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale, Postpartum Comfort Scale were used to collect data. Data were evaluated using number, percentile distribution, mean, minimum and maximum values, standard deviation, t test, One Way ANOVA, Kruskal Wallis, Mann Whitney U, Tukey Post Hoc, Spearman Correlation; analysis. Results: In the study, the MBASD level of the women was found to be moderate. It was determined that there was a statistically significant difference between the Women's age at marriage, family type, education status, spouse's education status, employment status, income status, number of pregnancies, pregnancy follow-up, last week of birth, postpartum support status, visiting relatives and friends or contacting them by phone, and total MSPSS scores of women (p<0.05). The DSK level of the women was found to be moderate. It was determined that there was a significant difference between the Women's age at marriage, family type, education status, spouse's education status, employment status, spouse's employment status, income status, planned pregnancy status, pregnancy follow-up, last week of birth, type of delivery, who had the last birth, evaluation status of the woman, status of receiving postpartum support, visiting relatives and friends or reaching them by phone, and the total DSKÖ scores of women (p<0.05). It has been determined that there is a positive and significant relationship between the perceived social support of women in the postpartum period and their postpartum comfort (p<0.05). Conclusion: The increase in the perceived social support levels of women in the postpartum period in the study, was found to increased their postpartum comfort level.
