Abstract (EN)

Ali Ahmad Bakathir, one of the most important Arabic literary figures of the twentieth century, was born in Indonesia, received his basic education in Yemen, his homeland, and settled in Egypt after traveling through many Islamic countries. In this study, the literary personality of Bakathir, who is one of the most productive writers of modern Arabic literature, has been studied based on the works he wrote in different fields of literature such as poetry, theater and novel and, it was attempted to find out the Islamic elements in these works. Bakathir was influenced by especially by English literature in addition to the Arabic literature, and he was among the leading figures of the free verses, with his poems, which he wrote as the result of this effect. His success in short political theaters has led him to write longer political dramas in the form of tragedy and comedy. He is the first writer that had dealt with the Palestinian issue in the theatrical works. History, in which he had interest and had explored very well, has been a source for many of his literary works, for this reason; he addressed the political and social problems of his era by frequently symbolizing them within the subjects selected from the historical events. In these works, topics such as social innovation, development, national and spiritual values, the struggle against colonialism, Palestinian tragedy, unity spirit, jihad, and justice were prevalent. In his works, the Islamic perspective is dominant. In this respect, he contributed to the establishment of Islamic consciousness within the existing conditions of the twentieth century.
