Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of an alkaline breakfast meal on acute exercise performance, food intake and appetite compared to a normal breakfast. Physically active 10 volunteer male individuals (between the ages of 18-25) participated in the study. In the study conducted with a single-blind cross-over trial model; The same participants were given 2 different trials, one alkaline fed group and one control group (normal diet), with one week interval. In all trials, participants participated in treadmill exercise at % 80-85 of their heart rate reserve, 2 hours after breakfast consumption, until exhaustion. In order to determine the effects of different types of breakfast meals on exercise performance, exercise-exhaustion time and heart rate during exercise, subjective hunger and fatigue parameters were evaluated. In addition to these, in order to evaluate the food intake after exercise, cake consumption was realized 1 hour after the exercise and the consumed amounts were recorded. In the analysis of the data, dependent variable T test and analysis of variance in repeated measurements were used, and in case of significant difference, Benferroni test was used to determine the source of the difference. SPSS 22.0 computer program was used for statistical analysis of the data and significance was accepted as p<0.05. As a result of the statistical analysis; Although an alkaline breakfast consumed before exercise was observed to prolong running time and reduce post-exercise food intake, these differences were not significant. However, significant results were observed in the data related to hunger, and the fasting parameters were found to be lower in the group that consumed the alkaline breakfast meal after both exercise and cake consumption (p<0.05). In the light of all these data, pre-exercise alkaline diet compared to normal diet; It could not be said that it has a different effect on exercise performance, appetite, food intake and fatigue. As a result, it can be said that an alkaline breakfast consumed before acute exercise does not make a significant contribution to running performance.
