Abstract (EN)
İntroduction: Alcohol-substance abuse is an important public health problem. In addition to drug treatment applied by physicians in addiction treatment, there may be non-drug treatment methods applied by patients themselves. The person's temperament and attachment to God, which is also considered a kind of transitional object, can also be effective in the selection of these non-drug treatment methods. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the non-drug treatment seeking of addicted patients and the factors related to non-drug treatment seeking, especially their attachment with God. Method: This study was conducted on patients who applied to the Sakarya University Training and Research Hospital AMATEM inpatient service and the AMATEM outpatient clinic between 15.04.2019 - 15.10.2019. According to DSM-5, 103 patients who had at least one diagnosis of Alcohol-Substance Use Disorders participated in our study. Patients were administered Sociodemographic Data Form, Non-Drug Treatment Questionnaire, Addiction Profile Index-Practitioner Form, God Attachment Inventory, and SCID-1 and SCID-2 were interviewed. Results: In addicted individuals, the rate of seeking any non-drug method was found to be 33%. In order to get rid of addiction, the methods of turning to rel igion are preferred (24.3%). When looked individually, self-help methods such as praying (17.4%) and doing sports (6.7%) are preferred. No relationship was found between the patients' attachment styles with God and their personality traits and the choice of non-drug treatment method. However, the severity of addiction and additional psychiatric problems have been found to be effective in seeking non-drug treatment Conclusion: In our study, it was found that patients with high severity of addiction and additional psychiatric diagnoses were seeking more non-drug treatment than others. Treatment of addiction is an issue that should be handled in a multidimensional dimension. Key Words: Alcohol Addiction, Substance Abuse, Attachment to God, Traditional and Complementary Medicine, Personality Traits
