Abstract (EN)

In this study; Among the patients randomized because of severe postoperative sequelae expected as a result of radiological examination prior to surgical extraction of lower third molar teeth; nonsteriod antiinflammatory drug prescribed group compared with preoperative single dose intraoral submucosal corticosteroid administration and therapeutic elastic bandage application. Fifty-seven volunteer patients who were admitted to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University between April 2019 and August 2019 and reqiured bone removal and even tooth sectioning for surgical removal of impacted third molars were included in the study. As a result of the analysis of the data obtained from 52 patients (36 females, 16 males), it was seen that the postoperative edema and trismus data of the groups that had undergone submucosal corticosteroid and therapeutic elastic bandage were significantly lower and the inflammatory symptoms were significantly reduced in terms of the patients in these groups. In conclusion, therapeutic elastic bandage application, which can provide similar results in the application of dexamethasone, a corticosteroid which is a long-acting activity with high glucocorticoid effect, has the potential to show beneficial effects in oral and maxillofacial surgical applications.
