Investigation of number sense levels of sixth and seventh grade students in the context of some variables

The aim of this study is to determine the number senses of 6th and 7th grade students and to sepecify the change of their sense of abilities according to their class level, gender, education level of parents, preschool education, science and arts center attendences, their attitude towards mathematics lesson and school type. In line with these purposes, the model of the research consists of the screening model, which is one of the quantitative research patterns made to determine the number of students' sensory levels. The research was carried out with students studying in public and private institutions in 6th and 7th grades of secondary school in the central district of Kastamonu. The study was conducted with 135 6th grade students and 66 7th grade students. While 42 of these students receive education in private institutions, the remaining 159 continue their education in public institutions. In the research, the number sense scale developed by Kayhan-Altay and Umay in 2013 was used as a data collection tool. In the analysis of the data, levene test, t test, kolmogorov-smirnov test were used. As a result of the research, it was determined that there was a significant difference in favor of the 7th grades in terms of the classes in which the students were studying, while there was no significant difference in terms of the gender of the students. A difference was found between the students who have never received pre-school education and those who have received pre-school education for 1 year or more. It has been observed that there is a significant difference between the children of mothers of secondary school graduates and mothers with other education levels in favor of students whose mothers continue their education after secondary school, those who show positive attitude towards mathematics lessons and those who show positive attitudes. It was observed that there was no significant difference between the children of fathers with secondary and high school education levels and between the children of fathers with university and postgraduate education.
