Woman focused journalism in the context of alternative media: Bianet example

The media, which performs productions via the paternal system and continually contributes to social gender inequality and women's representation in second place is one of the important elements that needs to be investigated as part of inequality and discrimination. There are various methods related to the fight against gender discrimination found in the media. In this context, women creating their own media has been an important area of challenge. Alternative media is a channel that makes those not represented in the mainstream media heard, where the production process is democratic and collective and as opposed to the mainstream media that has an approach that integrates listener/viewer/reader participation in the production process and that is not profit focused and far from the organizational hierarchy. Alternative media has a strong structure in providing an alternative to the traditional media's unequal structure based on gender. In this context, the aim of the study is to research the Bianet.org "women's" website in the context of women focused journalism as an alterntive media sample, and whether it is an alternative to the gender discriminatory and paternal attitude of the mainstream media. In this study, a method of descriptive analysis is applied and face-to-face interviews are conducted with the editor of bianet.org "women's" department.
