SUMMARYMaster ThesisPopulation, Settlement and Economic Activities in Middle and Lower Part ofVillages of Altınkuşak StreamHamza ASLANUniversity of FıratThe Institute of Social ScienceThe Department of GeographyELAZIĞ- 2006- Page: X+151The Middle and Lower Part villages of Altınkuşak Stream are located in thewest and northwest of City Elazığ in the Upper Euphrates Part in the East AnatolianRegion.The population of the investigation area increased from 1935 to 1980, whereas ithas decreased after 1980.Investigation area became a settlement place for Gurris, Hittites, Romans,Byzantines, Arabians, Seljuks and Ottomans. In this area, there are 31 villages and 23quarters as well as sheepfolds, farms and summer places.Economic activities of the villages are agriculture and stock-raising. Inagricultural lands, wheat, barley, chickpea, sugarbeet and corn are produced. Becausethe land is rough and vegetation of it is stepe caused sheep-raising to increase. After1980 poultry-raising has become widespread.Because of the fact that investigation area is close to Elazığ City Center andtransportation possibilities are convenient, industrial foundations have been establishedon productive land in the rural area.Key Words: Altınkuşak Stream, Summer Places, Population, Settlement andEconomic Activities.I
