Seismic vulnerability analysis of lifelines systems Sakarya province example

Abstract (EN)

After the 1999 Marmara earthquake, serious damages occurred in some of the potable water networks of Sakarya province, and almost all of the sewerage networks became inoperable. In this study, Sakarya province infrastructure systems; The vulnerability of buried pipes, which constitute a large part of potable water supply and distribution, sewerage, storm water and natural gas networks, against seismic hazards has been analyzed with pipe vulnerability methods in the literature. The peak ground velocity used in the analysis of the vulnerability of buried pipes against possible earthquakes was determined with the help of classical probabilistic seismic hazard analysis. Soil classes used in vulnerability analysis were calculated with the help of seismic data taken from 2044 points throughout the province. A pipe inventory of the infrastructure systems of Sakarya province was created and vulnerability parameters were defined for all pipes with the help of geographic information systems. HAZUS, Isoyama (2000), ALA (2001) and Yoo, Kang and Kim (2013) methods, which are frequently used in the literature, were used for pipe vulnerability analysis. As a result of the analysis, damage repair rates expressing the vulnerability for all pipes were obtained and the pipes were classified according to their damage repair rates. As a result of the study, it has been observed that the peak ground velocity is high, the vulnerability levels of most of the pipes in the south of Adapazarı, Serdivan, Akyazı, Arifiye, Karapürçek, Erenler, Sapanca, Geyve and Pamukova districts are high and very high. It has been observed that the pipelines in Kaynarca, Karasu, Kocaali, Ferizli and Söğütlü districts in the north of the province have low vulnerability. In addition, it has been determined that the vulnerability of fragile asbestos cement pipes used in potable water networks is at a very high level. It has been observed that the vulnerability levels of the fragile concrete and reinforced concrete pipes used in sewerage and storm water networks are high and very high. It has been determined that the pipe types used in natural gas networks are safer than other networks because they are ductile steel and polyethylene.
