The effects of cutting depth, cutting speed and feed rate on surface quality in machining aluminum alloy

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the effects of feed rate, cutting tool nose radius, cutting speed and cutting depth on surface roughness were investigated for 7075 aluminumalloy in turning machining with uncoated carbide cutting tools both on a universal turning machine and a universal milling machine. Uncoated tungsten carbide cutting tools of 0,8 mm nose radius,produced by Böhler and 0,4 mm nose radius produced by Sandvik were used in experiments. In experiments, Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed to analyze the effect of cutting parameters on surface finish values. The correlations between the factors and surface roughness were conducted by Multivariable regression analysis. It is found out that the surface roughness was increased when feed rate and cutting depth were increased on the other hand, the surface roughness was decreased when the cutting speed was increased. The most effective parameters on surface roughness were observed feed rate, cutting tool nose radius, cutting speed and cutting depth respectively. Experimental study indicated that an increase in feed rate caused adhesion of the aluminum on the tool insert.
