Abstract (EN)

This study presents a research on the antioxidant, antimicrobial and DNA protective properties of root, stem, leaf and flower extracts of Amaranthus retroflexus L.. As a result of the literature review, there are no studies on bioactive compounds for Amaranthus retroflexus L.. For this reason, biological activities were investigated by using methanol extracts obtained from root, stem, leaf and flower parts of this plant. The antioxidant values of the extracts were found to be high, but the oxidant values of the same extracts were also found to be high. In this study, the effects of Amaranthus retroflexus L. plant extracts against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC25923, E. coli 35218, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853, Yarrowia lipolitica NCAMIM YOO591, Candida albicans ATCC10231, Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212 strains were investigated. It has been observed that this plant species exhibits effective antibacterial activity against Enterococcus facalis ATCC 29212 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC25923 bacteria. When DNA was examined in terms of protective activity, it was found that all the extracts obtained had the feature of protecting DNA from oxidative damage. As a result of this study, it was concluded that Amaranthus retroflexus L. plant contains active compounds with oxidant and DNA protective properties. These findings may shed light on the plant's potential health benefits and future research. KEY WORDS: Amaranthus retroflexus L.
