Determination of natural radioactivity levels of Amasya thermal springs

Abstract (EN)

Natural radioactivity results from natural radionuclides in the Earth's crust, such as Ra-226, Th-232 and K-40. Determination of radioactivity values of these elements is very important for human health. In this study, natural radioactivity levels of soil samples taken from the around of Terziköy and Gözlek thermal springs in Amasya region were measured. The measurements were carried out with the Gamma Spectrometer System with NaI (Tl) detector in Amasya University Radioactive Research Laboratory. Specific activity concentration associated with natural radionuclides, air absorbed dose ratio, annual effective dose, Radium equivalent activity, external hazard index and gamma activity index were calculated. Maximum activity values for Terziköy calculated as 23,93 Bq/kg; 9,56 Bq/kg; 341,89 Bq/kg for Ra-226, Th-232 ve K-40, and for Gözlek calculated as 18,85 Bq/kg; 13,34 Bq/kg; 339,66 Bq/kg for Ra-226, Th-232 ve K-40, respectively.
