Monumental buildings of Amasya and Hızır Paşa Complex restitution and preservation proposal

Amasya, the city which carries the signs of many civilizations, has witnessed many important events throughout history and has gone under many developments during Turkish Period. The first period of Ottoman Empire, when works that still stand today were built, has a significant importance in public improvements. Although they have been built in a period when Ottoman Empire has began to change followed by Istanbul?s conquest, the buildings of Hızır Pasha Complex (1465-1466) have been investigated as they were qualified as applications that reflects the old architectural traditions. The first section of this thesis gives an overall helpful information about Amasya and includes a comparative index of buildings, like mosques, Turkish baths and madrasahs which still stand and that were mentioned in Albert Gabriel?s work ?Monuments Turcs d?Anatolie? written in 1934. In the second section, documentary was made for the mosque and Turkish bath of Hızır Pasha Complex which arrived to our time. The ruined Turkish bath and relatively better Mosque are documented with building surveys and photographs, together with the historical investigations and comparisons reassembling drawings are made. In the subsequent phase, the buildings are evaluated within the contemporary protection principles, preservation and restoration recommendations are given. The index part in this thesis has a supporting role in the researches about Hızır Pasha Complex. This research contains monumental buildings in Amasya partially and in the frame of analytical investigations and evaluations like building survey, reassembling and restoration studies contributes to Hızır Pasha Complex to be ready for restoration.
