Effects of patient's education before surgery on the postoperative anxiety and pain

ABSTRACT Effects Of Patient's Education Before Surgery On The Postoperative Anxiety And Pain Hasan Kalyoncu University Health Science İnsitute Master of Science Nursing Master Thesis, Gaziantep, 2018. This study is planed in the general surgery clinic of Cizre Dr. Selahattin Cizrelioğlu State Hospital in Şırnak province. Inguinal hernia surgery was performed with the purpose of determining the effect of planed preoperative training on postoperative anxiety and pain level. Between 1 November 2017 and 31 March 2018 a total of 60 patients, 30 in control group and 30 in expeimental group, were collected. The data were collected by socio-demographic data from, state and continuty anxiety sale and visual camparison scale. The control group patients did not perform any other treament except for their routine nursing pratice. Exprimental group patients were given about training on surgery and 'pre-operative trianing guidance booklet' by the researcher. Patients in both groups were performed STAI-II 24 hours before surgery and STAI (state anxiety) 24 hours after surgery. Postoperative fourth hour 2 times and total 4 time pain levels were avaluated by visual comparision techinique. Control and experiment group patients were similiar in terms of gender and other charecteristics besides working status (p>0.05). The difference between the groups in ters of preoperative anxiety scores was not statistically meaningfull (p>0.05). The pain score of the 4th measurment was also found tobe statistically meaningfullin the patient's pain level conrol group of the experiment group (p<0.05). As a result, it has been determined that the pravision of planed informasion and in training is reduced at the level of pain, which the experiment group in this studyincreasses the anxiety of the patients (p<0.05).
