Özet (EN)

This study was conducted descriptively analytically to examine the effect of postoperative fasting period on pain and well-being of patients. It was conducted with 150 patients who underwent elective surgical procedures under general anesthesia in surgical clinics of a public hospital, who volunteered to participate in the research and completed the survey form completely. Data were collected using the patient information form, numerical pain scale and Quality of Recovery-40 Questionnare QoR-40. IBM SPSS Version 23.0 statistical program was used to analyze the data. Percentage, frequency, minimum and maximum values, mean and standard deviation statistics were used to examine descriptive data. To determine whether the quality of recovery differed according to sociodemographic characteristics and surgery knowledge, t-test was used in pairs and independent groups, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used in more than two groups. As a result of the research, it was determined that the fasting period had an effect on the pain level one hour before feeding after surgery and on the pain level one hour after feeding after surgery (p<0.001). As a result of this study, no statistically significant effect was found between the postoperative fasting period and the total recovery quality score (p>0.005).
