Evaluation of perceptions of operating room and intensive care employees on occupational health, safety and occupational accidents

The aim of the study is to evaluate the knowledge and awareness of the hospital's Operating Room and Intensive Care employees about employee safety. In this study, the phenomenon of employee safety, which should be considered at every moment and everywhere in business life, was examined and evaluated in operating room and intensive care employees in health institutions. Research, T.C. 200 questionnaires filled in by the employees of the Operating Room and Intensive Care units at the Ministry of Health-Marmara University Pendik Training and Research Hospital were evaluated. Collected data were analyzed using IBM SPSS 26 package program. Skewness and kurtosis values were examined to determine whether the data obtained in the study showed normal distribution or not. It is observed that the proportionally majority of the employees participating in the study are satisfied with the working hours and task distribution issues, security measures, employee safety training, and are not satisfied with the number of nurses and doctors. The majority of the employees participating in the study declared that they had an occupational accident or occupational disease in their institution. Since the rate of employees who read the Regulation on Ensuring Patient and Employee Safety is quite low, it is thought that the knowledge level of the cause of occupational accidents and diseases is low. As a result of the analysis and tests applied, it was revealed that the employees participating in the study showed differences according to their age, gender, education levels, working hours in the profession and the institution, the position they work in and the unit they work in. It has been demonstrated that the awareness and concerns of those who work less than a year who have just started the profession and those who are high school graduates are less, and those who work for a long time in the profession are more worried.
