Abstract (EN)
In this study named "Animal Image in America and Western European Printmaking", animal images in the printmaking works of artists who lived in Western Europe and the Americas were discussed. In this direction, the chronological method was taken as a basis in the research, which was created by giving examples of the artists who included animal images in their prints and their works. The aim of this study is to investigate the place and importance of the animal image in the works of artists of different periods in the historical process from the beginning of the art of printmaking to the present. From the first time the art of printmaking emerged, one of the most used images has been an animal. It has reflected the representational forms of cultural and symbolic identity in the traditional printmaking history of animal images, which have been depicted simply and effectively since the early ages, and also acted as a mediator in conveying the narratives of the artists who were the witnesses of the time. In this context, it has been examined how the animal image has been handled from the historical process of printmaking in the Americas and Western Europe to the present, and its meaning and contents were evaluated through the works. The fact that printmaking is open to technical innovations due to its nature has also affected the production process of the artists in the same direction, so it has been seen that the animal images in the artworks have also been transformed over time. With this research, reading animal images through printmaking has revealed that it reflects social and intercultural diversity.
