US democracy promotion: Greater Middle East initiative and Arab Spring case studies

Democracy that is one of the most important components of American identity and values is a significant manner of discourse with regard to foreign politics. Accordingly; US, believing democracy is the most excellent value of the humankind to experience and so thinking that it has a mission to promote the democracy, has been following a policy due to this mission since its foundation. Therefore US indigenized varied foreign policy approaches such as "Exemplarism or Vindicaitonalism" in the historic process in the context of the idea that the mission undertaken is correlated with the American identity and values. While indigenizing these foreign policy approaches, US made use of some traditions which was called with the name of the leaders and shaped the American policy. Consequently, in this thesis it is going to be mentioned about some traditions and approaches of the democracy seen as a part of American values and its reflection in the American foreign policy in the basis of constructivism addressing to social values and identity-interest relationship. From hence, as it is going to be mentioned at the end of the study, the process seeking to the Greater Middle East Initiative and the Arab Spring, which are important turning points for the American foreign policy is going to be analyzed and the foreign policy observed in two different processes is going to be evaluated based on the sample cases.
