Abstract (EN)

After the establishment of the new Turkish state and the transition to a Republican administration, the modernization movement that had been ongoing since the Ottoman era continued at full speed in political, economic, cultural, and social realms. Alongside changes in these areas, significant transformations were implemented in the education system. The book titled "Nazari ve Ameli Terbiye Serisi" (Theoretical and Practical Training Series) in the United States examines the changes in the field of education, providing Turkish readers interested in the quest for new educational models with a simple narrative about the management, financial resources, legal regulations, and public education of the American education system. The authors of the series are education experts closely associated with the American Protestant missionary organization known as the ABCFM (American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions). The education system of the United States has subjective characteristics derived from the historical, geographical, and social diversity of the country. In the federative governance system of the United States, each state determines its own education system. The indispensable principle of the American education system is to cultivate independent thinkers free from religious and political pressures. American education emphasizes not only academic but also physical and cultural development. The undeniable fact is that schools, with their spacious hallways, high windows, and various additional units, provide students with a rich learning environment by incorporating facilities such as sports fields, libraries, and museums.
