American multiculturalism and Melungeon identity

The aim of the study with the title of ?American Multiculturalism and Melungeon Identity? is to question American multiculturalism and analyse Melugeon Identity.This study is composed of five main parts. In the first part, concept of multiculturalism, its framework and claim and its history has been analysed. In the second part, theory of multiculturalism is examined. The third part of the study is composed of American Multiculturalism. In the fourth part, methodological aspect of the study is written. In the fifth part, Melungeon Identity is examined.In this study, both the multicultural literature has been examined seriously for theorotical background and a field study has been done. To reach Melungeons, America has been visited twice and using participatory observation and interwiev techniques, concrete data were obtained.Obtaining concrete data, It has been seen that there is a reality of multiculturalism and it is also applied in some countries politically and it has a theory of individual rights and group rights. It has also been found that America is a multicultural society but it is not multiculturalist yet. It has also been understood that Melungeon society, which has a minor part in American society, hasn?t got its own identity and ethnic consciousness but they have been working on identity studies fort he last 20 years.Key words: Multiculturalism, American Multiculturalism, Melungeon, Melungeon Identity
