Synthesis of silver nanoparticles using amino acids and their utilizations as antibacterial agent and spider web coating materials

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are widely used in many fields ranging from biomedical to energy applications. The morphological ve crystallographic properties of AgNPs affect their utilization performance. In our proposed study, AgNP synthesis was firstly studied using the amino acids L-Tryptophan, L-Arginine, L-Glutamic acid, L-proline, L-Cysteine, L-Asparagine, L-Threonine ve L-Isoleucine. None of the amino acids used allowed the synthesis of stable AgNPs. Lactose methoxyaniline (LMA), Galactose 5-aminosalicylic acid (G5AS), Lactose 4,4'-sulfonyldianiline (LPSA) ve Lactose sulfanilic acid (LSA) sugar ligves were used to increase the stability of AgNPs. In the case where sugar ligves were used, the amino acids L-Arginine, L-Glutamic acid, L-proline, L-Cysteine ve L-Asparagine were included in the study ve spectroscopic, morphological ve microbiological characterizations of AgNPs were carried out. Morphological characterization of AgNPs synthesized with LPSA ve LSA could not be performed. On the other hve, morphological characterizations of AgNPs synthesized with LMA ve G5AS were performed. Bacterial studies showed that AgNPs synthesized with LPSA ve LSA were active against all tested bacteria, whereas AgNPs synthesized with G5AS showed a very narrow selectivity. Due to their unconventional optical properties ve biomedical properties, spider web-AgNP composite structures were synthesized ve characterized by electron microscopy. In the light of the present results, it was found that the chemistry of sugar ligves ve amino acids dramatically altered the morphology, antibacterial performance ve overall stability of AgNPs. Further studies will provide further explanations for the observed differences.
