Investigation of the relationship between somatotype structures and relative arm strength and shooting speed of amputee football team players

This study aims to investigate the relationship between somatotype structures and relative arm strength and shooting speed of amputee football team players. The sample group of the study consisted of 23 volunteer male athletes (age 27,96±5,20 years, height 176,26±6,79 cm, body weight 68,22±8,49 kg) playing in Alves Kablo Amputee Football Club and ODTU Teknokent Sports Club in Ankara. In this context, somatotype, relative arm strength and speed measurements were analysed in male athletes. Statistical analyses of the data obtained from the athletes participating in the study were performed using IBM SPSS 29.0 program. The findings of the study showed that there was a weak positive relationship between height and shooting speed (r=,447, p<0.05), a weak positive relationship between body weight and shooting speed (r=,614, p<0.01), a moderate positive relationship between upper arm mass and shooting speed (r=,521, p<0.05), a moderate positive relationship between lower arm mass and shooting speed (r=,696, p<0.001) and total arm mass and shooting velocity (r=,696, p<0.001), thigh mass and shooting velocity (r=,445, p<0.05) and humeral epicondyle and shooting velocity (r=,478, p<0.05). However, no significant relationship was found between relative arm strength and shooting speed, and no significant relationship was found between somatotype and shooting speed. As a result, it shows that some physical characteristics of amputee footballers can affect shooting speed, but relative arm strength and somatotype structures do not have a significant effect on this relationship.
