Investigation of the relationship between emotion regulation and decision-making skills of amputee national team athletes

The aim of this dissertation is to examine the relationship between emotion regulation and decision-making skills of amputee national team athletes. This research was conducted with mixed method model. First, quantitative data were collected and analyzed. Then qualitative research methods were used to provide in-depth information. As data collection tools, demographic information, emotion regulation scale and decision-making skills scale were applied in the first stage. In the second stage, a semi-structured interview form was used. In the analysis of quantitative research data, it was first examined whether the data were normally distributed. As a result of the examinations, it was decided that the data were normally distributed. Therefore, Pearson correlation analysis was used to examine the relationship between variables from parametric tests and regression analysis was used to determine the effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable. In the analysis of qualitative research, inductive method was adopted and as a result of the content analysis, 3 main themes, 8 sub-themes and 29 codes were created. As a result of both qualitative and quantitative data obtained from our study, it is seen that emotion regulation skills have positive effects on the decision-making skills of national team amputee athletes. As a result of the data obtained from quantitative findings, it was determined that emotion regulation skills had a significant positive effect on careful decision-making and self-esteem skills from decision-making styles, while it predicted procrastinating, avoidant and panic decision-making styles negatively and significantly. From the data obtained from qualitative findings, it was concluded that it is effective in the management of emotions such as stress, anxiety and anger as well as contributing to the psychological performance development of amputee national team athletes.
