Evaluation of the views of teachers and administrators in Anatolian fine arts high schools about the use of museums with the aim of education of art

Ill SUMMARY The necessity of art education has increased further when the problems that our age has brought are taken into consideration. Art lessons within the education of art constitute one of the first steps in fulfilment of this necessity. Anatolian Fine Arts High Schools are taken up most extensively. The museum education makes it possible for art lessons to be meaningful, to establish a link between the past and future, as well as to induce creativity through direct leasning. The museums, however, are places where learning is made preponderately by doing and living. In addition, it is an unrenounceable means to address visual needs of students to enable them to gain the awarenes of protecting art works by helping an art student and individual realize the value of art and art works. Therefore, museum education is considered to play a significant part in AFAHS. The determination of the existing situation in AFAHS and the teaching staffs views regarding the subject will allow us to understand whether these institutions are ready for museum education in respect of teaching staff. Accordingly, the determination of whether museum education lesson could be necessery. In this study, the views of teachers and administrators in AFAHS' about the use of museums with the aim of art were invertigated. Futhermore, the exiting situation as regards the use of museums with the aim of art education and the reasons why museums were not used was also tried to be determind. The scope of the research consist of AFAHS, and the sampling, however, is composed of AFAHS determined randomly in 8 provinces. The application of data collection was restricted to teachers and administrators. The data collection means was developed by the researcher himself by carrying out validity and reliability studies fallowing the delving of the related sources. The data obtained as a result of the research were achieved by using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Scocial Science) for Windows 9.0. The data were interpreted by means of t-test, variance analysis (one-way) and arithmetic means. The results of the data were determined to be as fallows: It was determined that most of the teachers shared the view that museums could be used with the aim of art education. It was observed that more than half of teachers could not use the museums with the aim of art education. - İt was determined that most of teachers expressed the reason why they could not use the museums first as the inadequacy of educational programs, second as being in experienced and third as the unavailabilty of those who can guide them. The museum education is one of the factors that should not be neglected in terms of art education. İn this respect, the museum education should be included into the educational programs in AFHS, which is an important institution that offers art education.
