Traces and effects of Cimmerian-Scythian in Anatolia

The topic of this thesis consists of the effects of Cimmerian and Scythian migrant warriors, whose activites we can observe in Anatolia from 8. B.C. to 6. B.C; their immigration to Anatolia; their relations with other Anatolian cultures and their effects on the Anatolian Culture As being the local kingdoms of Anatolia in Iron Age, the Urartian State, late Hitit cities, Phrygia and Ions in west Anatolia were negatively affected from the attacks of Cimmerians and Scythians. It is accepted that Urartians were defeated by Scythians whereas Phrygians were defeated by Cimmerians.Since Cimmerians and Scyhtians had no written cultures, the written resources of Urartu, Assu, and Greeks with whom Cimmerians and Scythians were in relation, were carefully examined to understand their relation with other Anatolian cultures. Archaeological findings, which were found in Anatolia and thought to being belong to the migrant tribes, were examined by taking into account their excavation locations.Migrant tribes had not only affected the political history of Anatolian states, but they had also affected them in cultural subjects. We can obtain this information from the works of art which were made with the inspiration of Animal Style especially in Phrygian and Lydian arts. One of the most important components which ensured superiority of migrant tribes to other cultures is the long-distance archery. The most effective way of success in long-distance archery was socketed arrowheads. There is a strong possibility that they came to Anatolia through the agency of these tribes and they affected the war technologies of Anatolian states.
