Plastic analysis of architectural elements on pictorial surfaces respecting Anatolian Seljuk caravanserais

In this study, the reasons for the emergence of caravanserais, built during the Anatolian Seljuk period, their historical developments, in which routes they were constructed, the management and architectual features of the buildings and their contribution to the socio-economic life were investigated, and in the light of compiled information,the caravanserais were strived to be reflected on canvas as an image by means of oil painting practices. The geographical richness of the environment and social, economic and above all the level of artistic development play a significant role in the transformation of the space into shape that master-artist creates in the mind. The fact that the caravanserais have a different architectural style in each region is considered as a result of this situation. The caravanserais, which can be regarded as reflections of the region in which they were formed and of the people formed in that region, create very rich connotations in our memory as a gathering center of the socio-cultural experiences of the past. Caravanserais which were confronted intensely during Anatolian Seljuks period are a type of medieval building named after with the words such as konaklıg, ribat, inn, caravanserai, Sultan inn.Those constructions which played a very significant role as political, economic and social in the past, have lost their importance especially since the 20th century and have been left to their fates as a ruin. It is important to protect those historical structures, which have the feature of being the title deeds of the land we live on, and to transfer this heritage to the next generations by introducing various roles to the national economy. In this thesis, some practices with technique of oil panting on canvas were made by the reseacher. Caravanserai constructions which belong to Anatolian Seljuk period form the main motif of those practices.Those constructions were preferred due to the warmth, naturalness, visual richness of the material used and due to its witnessing of history and the traces of the cultural life it contains. In this context, 10 practices were applied with oil painting technique on canvas and then these practices that worked on were analyzed in terms of form and content.
