Neolithic figurine in Anatolian ceramic and its eclectic interpretation

The Neolithic Age, is dated nearly between 10500 and 5500 BC in Anatolia. The settled life, agriculture, animal breeding, social structure, art, architecture and craft emerged significantly in this period. The aim of this thesis is to determine the ceramic figurines in the Neolithic Period in Anatolia and to evaluate them with their artistic values. Thus, ceramic figurines will be evaluated with their formal values as well as purpose of making and using them. Within the content of the thesis, the Cult of the Mother Goddess, which had important influences on the Neolithic ceramic figurine tradition, was examined and 72 ceramic figurines were evaluated. Another aim of the research is; to interpret eclectically the formal and conceptual values of Neolithic figurines in Anatolian ceramics. After the Industrial Revolution, the artists who sought innovation and originality developed an eclectic perspective with non-art objects, past cultures, different disciplines and new techniques. The eclectic trend with philosophical foundations has been called eclecticism in the field of art. The connection between the ceramic figurines of the Neolithic period and eclecticism has been realized within the content of the thesis with personal ceramic artworks and the relevant manifest. As a result of the research, the characteristics of the ceramic figurines belonging to the Neolithic period in Anatolia were explained as items and the contributions of the eclectic interpretations made with these features to the contemporary ceramic art was stated.
