Investigating of Anadolu University Eskişehir vocational school students' computer self efficacy perception and computer anxiety level

Being computer literate is a prerequisite in order individuals to achieve the information needed in seconds via computer and communication technologies. In this context to improve the students? computer literate skills is one of the most important responsibilities of education and training institutions. Computer self efficacy perception and computer anxiety take place among the variables effecting the students? computer literate skills.The aim of this study is to analyze the computer self efficacy perception and computer anxiety levels of Anadolu University Eskişehir Vocational School students in terms of several variables. Depending on this aim the study has been developed by using singular and correlational descriptive research models. 705 students who receive education in 2008-2009 spring instruction period at Anadolu University Eskişehir Vocational School of Turkey have formed the population of the study. In the study 71% return rate has been achieved. The data which are needed for achieving the aim of the study have been obtained by means of the survey developed by Gürcan (2005) and named ?Computer Self Efficacy Scale?, the survey developed by Ceyhan and Gürcan (2000) and named ?Computer Anxiety Scale? and ?Demographic Information Form? developed by the researcher. In the study, in addition to the descriptive statistics Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis test and Dwass-Steel-Chritchflow-Fligner (D-S-C-F) test which are among the non-parametric tests were used. In the statistical analysis .05 reliance level was adopted as significant level.According to the results obtained from the study it is determined that the computer self efficacy perception level of Eskişehir Vocational School is in the medium level. There has been found that there is a significant difference between the computer self efficacy perception level of Eskişehir Vocational School and gender, programmes, frequency of computer usage, level of computer usage, income level and owning a computer variables. On the other hand it has been understood that there is no significant difference between the computer self efficacy perception level of Eskişehir Vocational School and education type.Related to computer anxiety which is another variable and analyzed in the study it has been determined that Eskişehir Vocational School students? computer anxiety level is low. It is determined that there is a significant difference between the computer anxiety level of Eskişehir Vocational School students and gender, programmes, education type, frequency of computer usage, level of computer usage and owning a computer. However there is no significant difference between the computer anxiety level of Eskişehir Vocational School students class and income level. In the study the correlation between computer self efficacy perception and computer anxiety level is also analyzed and a conversely correlation has been found.
