Using the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) for the talent selection of bocce branch

Abstract (EN)

In solving complex problems with many different dimensions in talent selection, in order to support people to make better choices, multi-criteria decision-making methods have been developed to rank and suggest an optimum solution alternative out of a series of simple and based on certain criteria. One of them is the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHS). In this context, the aim of this research is to investigate the use of AHP method in talent selection in the bocce sport. Within the scope of the research, first of all, the required qualifications for bocce were determined in 4 main criteria and sub-criteria related to this were determined. 42 coaches (2nd, 3rd, and 4th levels) working under the Turkish Bocce Bowling and Darts Federation participated in the determination of the criteria. After the criteria were determined, the sub-criteria that were thought to affect the talent in the bocce branch were scored by the coaches. Based on these scores, the percentage weights of each sub-criteria were calculated using the AHP. As a result of the study, in terms of percentiles in the main criteria, cognitive characteristics (45.6%) are in the first place, psycho-social characteristics are in the second place (30.3%), motoric features are in the third place (14.6%), and in the last place (9%). ,4) anthropometric and physical features are included. In terms of sub-criteria, focusing ability (17.83%), perception (9.94%), decision making (7.30%), self-control (7.11%), attention level (6.48%), balance and coordination (6,12) skills seem to come to the fore. It is thought that these results can guide sports managers and coaches in talent selection and talent development in the bocce branch.
