Abstract (EN)

The subject of the present thesis is the syntactic analysis of the noun phrase in the western dialects of Adyghe, in other words, of Circassian. These dialects, which are the central subject of our research are the dialects of abzakh, temirgoey, bjedough and shapsough. Each of these dialects are spoken in different parts of the North Caucasus where the indigenous tribes of Circassians live. Although the Circassians, obliged to live in different parts of the world after the exile in 1864, tried to maintain their own dialects in their new "homelands", as they are not all coming from the same tribe, the dialect of the most populous tribe outweighs. As generally education in these dialects is not possible, they show differences from one to another. Thus, they are essentially the same. The points that the dialects differ from each other is about phonetics and pronunciation. Therefore, it is not possible to find a difference which causes that two speakers of two different dialects cannot understand each other. The linguistic theory that we followed during our research is the functionalist theory of André MARTINET. As a result, the main principle that we have taken into consideration is the principles of opposition and pertinence. As the subject of our research is the analysis of the noun clause in the western dialects of Adyghe, the center of our research is the morphemes, in other words the minimal meaningful unit, and their relations with each other. We not only have taken into consideration the principle of determination to analyze their relations with each other, but we also have analyzed the other determinants such as the plural, the case-markers and the connecters with the same principle. These analyses are made through the sentences translated from Turkish to Adyghe by our four informers of different ages and speaking different dialects.
