A study on the needful preservation of the traditional city pattern of Anamur and Hacı Ali Bey Residence

Anamur, which is a city in Mersin and located in the Mediterranean Region, is a settlement which has the cultural diversity of different ethnic and religious groups whose historical and architectural datum date back to Hittites. As a result of this cultural diversity, there had been different movable and real estate cultural wealth which belong to these periods. Cultural wealth which is the basis of the thesis are the traditional religious and civilian architectures of the latest Otoman and Republic periods. Among the needful preservation of the city pattern of Anamur, the examples of civilian architecture and Hacı Ali Bey Residence with its original architecture, attract attention. Hacı Ali Bey Residence which constitutes the basic theme of this thesis, has important value with its location, special features, dimensions, construction technic and materials. Nowadays, the buildings which have the traditional features, are located in different parts of the city center and they are not settled in street scale. The buildings that became unique in a parcel has been decreasing and gradually losing its authenticity due to the urban sprawl and the decrease of people who use the buildings. In the thesis, entitled `?A Study on the Needful Preservation of the Traditional City Pattern of Anamur and Hacı Ali Bey Residence??, the buildings located in Anamur which have historical values have been examined and in order to preserve these buldings without losing their traditional features, a study has been carried on to determine the necessary conditions. The basic aim of the study is to urgently identify and make documentation of these cultural wealth which will act as a bridge between the past and the future of Anamur.
