The effects of anatomical deformity upon the quality of life

The purpose of this study is to measure the quality of life on the individuals that have anatomical deformity. The research was performed between October 2015 and October 2016. The research is cross-sectional and anterograde. The research was performed on the individuals who have anatomical deformity and who hospitalized in orthopedia clinics of Isparta Eğirdir Bone and Joint Diseases and Rehabilitation Hospital. It was provided that the participants answer the necessary sections of socio-demographic information form and SF-36 The Quality of Life Scale by using face to face conversation. 200 individuals participated in the research voluntarily. The research data was analyzed in SPPS statistics package programme, the arithmetic mean and standard deviation of data was calculated, paired t test was used to compare the values in the same group and the analysis of variance was used to compare more parameters. Duncan's multiple range test was used for multiple contrasts. In this study, a statistical significance was found only in SF-36's body pain subdimension when the attendants are compared according to their gender. The average pain score of the male participants is higher than the female participants (p<0.05). When the scores that the participants get from the SF-36 Quality of Life's subdimensions are compared according to the age group, a statistical significance was found in the role limitations due to the physical health dimension, vitality dimension, social functioning dimension, body pain dimension, and general health dimension (p<0.05). In the intergroup comparison, the average score of 18-30 age group is higher than the other groups. In the role-emotional subdimension, a statistical significance was found (p<0.05). In the intergroup comparison, the average of 18-30 and 46-60 age groups is higher than the other groups. In the mental health subdimension, a statistical significance was found (p<0.05). In the intergroupcomparison, the average score of 18-30, 31-45 and 46-60 age groups is higher than the 61 and over groups. In the maritial status comparison, the single participants average score is higher than the married ones (p<0.05). There is also a statistical significance in maritial status. According to educational status, there is a statistical significance in all subdimensions except role limitations due to the physical health. While the average score of the participants who are illiterate, highschool graduate and university graduate is higher in the vitality subdimension, the average score of the participants who are highschool and university graduate is higher in the other subgroups when the groups are compared (p<0.05). According to the employment status, a statistical significance was't found. According to the health coverage, a statistical significance was found in physical functioning, vitality, mental health, social functioning, body pain and general health subdimensions (p<0.05). In the intergroup comparison, the average score of the participants who haven't benefit primary, is higher. According to the income statue, a statistical significance was found in social functioning and general health subdimensions (p<0.05). In the intergroup comparison, the average score of the participants who have minimum wage and who have 4001 TL and over income, is higher on both subdimensions. According to the living place, a statistical significance wasn't found in all subdimensions. According to deformity a statistical significance was found in physical function, emotional role, vitality, mental health, social functioning, body pain and general health subdimensions. In the intergroup comparison, it was found that while the average score of the participants who have hand and foot deformity in mental health subdimension is high, the average score of participants who have hand deformity is higher in other subdimensions that has statistical significance. According to the reason of deformity, a statistical significance was found only in general health subdimension. In intergroup comparison, the average scores of prepartum and the other groups is higher. According to the number of deformity, a statistical significance was found in physical function, vitality, mental health, social functioning, body pain and general health subdimensions (p<0.05). In intergroup comparison, the average score of the participants who have 3 or more deformity is higher. According to the life style (whether living alone or not), a statistical siginficance was found in physical function, vitality, mental health, social functioning, body pain and general health subdimensions (p<0.05). In intergroup comparison, it was found that the average score of the participants who live alone is high. According to the dependent on the activities of daily living, a statistical significance was found in all subdimensions (p<0.05). In intergroup comparison, the average score of the participants who answer ''Yes'' is higher. According to having chronic ilnesses, a statistical significance was found in mental health, body pain and general health subdimensions (p<0.05) . In intergroup comparison, the average score of the participants who answer ''No'' is higher. In conclusion, according to gender, age, maritial status, educational status, having health coverage, income statue, the number, place and reason of deformity, lifestyle (whether living alone or not), being dependent on the activities of daily living, having chronic ilnesses; a statistical significance was found in SF-36 Quality of Life Scale.
