Abstract (EN)

Anazarbos Ancient City, due to the strategic location and importance of the Ovalık Cilicia (Kilikia Pedias) Region that connecting Anatolia, Mesopotamia, and Kilicia Pedias was the capital at the 5rd century AD. The city is experiencing significant structural improvements. Also, there is a gate in the city, which is one of the few monumental city gates in Anatolia with its splendor and which has taken its place in the UNESCO Temporary World Heritage List. Apart from the chemical deterioration of the monumental gate, It is found to be open to all kinds of external and climatic effects With these effects the deterioration of limestone which is used as a building material and which is regional rock has been determined. As a result of these studies carried out on-site and in the laboratory, The attributes of the building materials were determined by the archaeometry investigations and solutions were proposed for the elimination of the problems. Any kind of archaeological or conservation-restoration work at the Anazarbos Ancient City Gate (South Gate / Ala Kapı) will regain the value and importance it deserves and will also count important contributions to the archeology of Anatolia and the world.
