Özet (EN)
The modern life envisioned in the period that started with the proclamation of the Republic in Ankara was supported by various activities and spaces corresponding to these activities. Music, which is culturally a showcase, has a different meaning in the period as a result of the effect of Westernization policy in this process. Starting from 1923 until the 2000s, the changing understanding of music depending on the social structure and the music venues corresponding to this change have created an effect that shapes the built environment and urban space in the city. With the proclamation of the Republic, Western-sourced music was tried to be popularized in the society in accordance with the adopted policies, and with the institutionalization and legal regulations in the field of music in the 1930s, it was aimed to adopt Alafranga music by the public. It is seen that Alaturka and Alafranga music were performed together in the casinos in Ankara until the end of the 1930s, and then Alafranga music became widespread. With the change of power in 1950, the new economic policies, political preferences and tendencies followed also changed the daily life activities in Ankara. It also changed the understanding of music. It is seen that jazz music was carried to Ankara through cultural exchange programs, associations and radio programs and performed in important venues of the period. Rock music, which emerged at the end of the 1950s, was first known for the interpretation of the songs in the repertoire of groups from abroad by Turkish artists. Rock music, which combined with local artistic elements and took a new form under the name of Anadolu Rock, started to be performed periodically in pavilions. In the 1970s, it is seen that rock music was socially accepted, created its own music audience, and was especially performed in cinemas. The location of the cinemas in Kavaklıdere is important for the spatial definitions that emerged in the later periods. In the 1980s, rock music that created its own audience led to the emergence of bar venues, and it has been performed in bars opened in the Kavaklıdere region. In the 1990s, it is seen that rock music was performed in the bars opened on Farabi Street in Kavaklıdere for the upper class audience, and in the bars opened on Sakarya Street and SSK İşhanı in the Kızılay region, appealing to a different segment of young people. Starting from the 2000s, rock music began to be performed in the open areas of shopping malls located outside the center. In this study, a general research on Western music and Western music performance venues was made with the proclamation of the Republic, and after 2000, it was left out of the scope and focused on rock music and rock music performance venues between 1970-2000.
