Abstract (EN)
While the styles and approaches used to bear the determinative characteristics of different eras and civilizations prior to Industrial Revolution, they have changed in parallel to modern architecture era, thus architectural formation and urban pattern, defined as rational and universalistic as well as not dependent on various cultural, economic, sociological and technological structuring, has come into being. The rational approach of modernism has also undergone a change in architecture which is one of the present postmodern culture and its social products. The buildings, fruit of architecture at present, has turned out to be a consumption means within the scope of global economic mindset. In this approach, popularity, stylistic individuality and the objective of being attractive by the user has created a different cultural atmosphere.By means of this approach, while present shopping malls has become the most important means of consumption system in terms of function, architectural identity seek has become another significant design criterion of this structure type.In this paper hereby, the formation mindset of shopping malls shaped within the past two decades in Ankara is analyzed with the title of two main methods in the context of ?Analysis of Building in Urban System Scale? and ?visual Analysis in Building Scale?.It is approached to evaluation in the Analysis of Building in Urban System Scale is concerned, it is evaluated and assessed with current visual perception approaches within the context of conveying message with visual perception in action of Kevin Lynch which is a modern period analysis approach, and structure shell of R. C. Venturi as post ? modern analysis approach. As far as visual analysis group in building scale in the context of external composition by excluding space organization. With the analysis approach of Rob Krier, J. Joedicke and P. Carl, some assessments and evaluations have been made considering the concepts of spatial effect, visual effect in environmental scale, geometrical construct, scale ? proportion rhythm, balance ? symmetry and perception focus.Upon the conclusion of this study, some objective data have been received through evaluating and assessing these buildings, bearing present architectural formation mindset, with mentioned analyzing methods. The main objective of this thesis is that these objective findings should provide design entry for the future design processes.Key Words: Shopping Centers,Visual Analysis, Architectural Design
