The knowledge and the manner of the autoclave users about the work that they do in some medical corporations in Ankara.

This research is a descriptive study which aimes todetermine the knowledge and manner of the autoclave users about their work in some medical corporations in Ankara.Data collection was performed with a survey which was prepared from litertures and the learned opinion by the researcher. The survey form is contain 30 questions about the descriptive specialities of the workers, their knowledge, attitude and the behaviour about the use of autoclave.The statistical datas were evaluated with SPSS 15.0 package programme by (frequency, mean), chi-squaretest and Fischer?s Exact Test.The 82.6% of the overall datas are ? 30 years old and 62.0% are male. The percantage of the universtiy, master and doctorate grade is 53.0%. The 47.1 % of the workers stated that they learned the use of autoclave from another worker. The primary school graduated workers stated that they had some problems, and the 55.8% of these problems are ambustions. The 12.7% of the workers didn?t declared these problems. The 46.7% of the workers who worked for 6-10 years at the division stated that they had problems, 25.3% stated that they are not use any record book, 34.0% stated that the workers who use autoclave are the servants or contracted employee, 73.0% stated that they know the phone nuber of the fire station.These results revealed that the education is not sufficient at the use of autoclave, to provide the occupational health and safety and to manage efficient sterilization. They also showed that the workers don?t have the problem based behaviour and they don?t declare their problems. And it can be seen that there are some employees who have no education about the use of autoclave and their overall knowledge come from other employee. The consideration of these results indicated that a regular, sufficient and standart educational programme has to be performed to the healthcare staff who are working at the sterilization units and all of the works have to be recorded and declared to the associated authority.
