Abstract (EN)

The desire to look beautiful, which emerged as a natural consequence of human beings' need for ornament and adornment, has reflected in the culture of clothing over time for centuries. In this regard, it is claimed that the need for dressing has also paved the way for the need for adornment by time, leading to the development of the art of hat, which is an accessory. Headwear culture, which is believed to have started with the effect of the need for protection purposes, later on, was diversified with symbolic meanings. Besides them, the effects of the concepts such as climate, lifestyle, and gender along with culture differences have been a distinguishing determinant in the widespread use of headgear. In today's world, headdresses are known to be used as a complementary piece of the costume in performing arts and they are produced sticking to their original forms as stated throughout the staging process of the work. In this very current dissertation, a number of 100 headdresses in the hat workshop of Ankara State Opera and Ballet Costume Department were investigated and detailed information forms were made available by taking photos of the products obtained. The frequency and percentage distributions were taken into consideration in the analysis and interpretation of the research results and findings. Within the framework and scope of the dissertation, the size, technique, materials used, color, pattern-forms and model-composition properties of the headdresses in Ankara Opera and Ballet hat-flower workshop were scrutinized. What is more, inspired by the titles investigated, 12 touristic product designs were made. It is thought that the dissertation will make up a written document for those people who would love to work on the same study topic, and it will shed light on the further future studies.
