Ankara Science Lycee (1964-2004)

In this study, Ankara Science Lcyee was chosen to examine in terms of all teaching processes. The reason why Science Lcyee was chosen as the subject of the study is that it was the first formal education institution to be established in our country concerning gifted children. Besides, all the studies into modern science and mathematics teaching has been carried out in Ankara Science Lcyee This is a field research studied with monographic technique. Literature scanning, archive work and interviews were carried out as the techniques of data collection within this perspective. The first part of this study is consisting from four parts, makes up the introduction, aim, significance, method, limitations and related works. The method of the study was primarily introduced in this part and other works conducted related to Ankara Science Lcyee were also presented in detail. In the second part, the establishment of Ankara Science Lcyee was considered and examined as the works prior to its establishment and the period of establishment. The third part is the main part of the study concerning the school itself. All the data dealing with physical structure of the school (the building, classrooms, labs, library etc.) was introduced in detail. Administrative services and other information over the teachers were given in this part. Selection of students, project works and award winning students in these studies were evaluated in this part. Four different programs applied for forty years and educational programs differentiating within this framework were introduced in this part as well. On the other hand, general status depending on various educational systems (system of passing the class, system of passing the course) was examined in this part. One of the basic issues examined in this part is the numeric data according to the years concerning the school. Quantity and the branches of teachers, quantity of the students, dispersion of students according to gender of the students, success status of the students, the status of graduation, the status of discipline and the status of the ones leaving the school with a certificate were all discussed in detail. The fourth part is the part of result and recommendations. The findings achieved were discussed and some recommendations were made concerning the problems arising in this part.
