The evaluation of the sociodemographical characteristics and cognitive and depression situations of the old who stay in four nursing home for the age in Ankara city

This study is to aim at identifying the sociodemographicaldata of the old who live in nursing home in Ankara City and to determinethe available situation of the nursing homes and to evaluate their cognitiveand depression situations.This study was applied to total 215 people living in SHÇEKAnkara Öğretmen Necla Kızılbağ Nursing Home Old Age Care andRehabilitation Center, SHÇEK Ankara Ümitköy Nursing Home Old AgeCare and Rehabilitation Center, Private Tatlıdil Nursing Home and OldAge Care Association-2 and Private Gönül Kö?küm Nursing Home andOld Age Care Association. The data obtained was transferred into SPSS15.0 statistical package programme. In the comperison of the frequency ofdepression and cognitive disorders, q-square test was used in thestatistical evaluation.The mean age of the participants are 75.7 ±10.06. 37.7% and62.3% of those living in nursing home are males and females respectively.38.1% is in the group at and under the age of 74 and 61.9% is in the group atand over the age of 75. 69.3% was at least graduated from primary school.83.7% has social security service. 56.7% has pension.34.9% has been living in the nursing home for 3 years or more.89.3% has been using drug continiously. 46.9% has been using tension drugand 20.9% has been using the sleeping pill. 84.2% does not smoke. 58.6%has the restricted movement because of the health situation. 56.3% has beenusing false teeth and 80.9% has not gone to any movie or theatre for a year.63.7% has cognitive disorders. There is a cognitive disorder in57.3% of the groups at and under the age of 74 and in 67.7% at and over theage of 75, and in 48.1% of the males, and 73.1% of the females and 78.8%of the ones who are not graduated from the primary school.39.5% of the ones have depression. There is a depression in37.8% of the group at and under the age of 74, in 48.6% of the group in atand over the age of 74 and in 51.3% of those who are married, and 36.9% ofthose who are widow/singe/divorced, and 44.4% of the males and in 36.6%of the females and in 27.3% of those who are not graduated from the primaryschool and in 45.0% of those who are at least graduated from the primaryschool.
