Abstract (EN)

Ankara is an important city which has hosted ancient civilizations in the historical process. Ankara, which showed a traditional structure in the Ottoman Period, began to develop and change rapidly as a modern city after the Republican Period. In this period; Ulus and Kizilay are becoming centers and within that period Kavaklıdere becomes Subcenter in the city which began to develop along Ataturk Boulevard, starting from Ulus towards Çankaya. In terms of urban and architectural readings about Ankara, city centers are the main focuses. Ulus, which shaped by structures and public space in 1930s, is the only center of the city. In the 1950s after many activities that had previously been in Ulus were transferred to, Kızılay has become new commercial and cultural center in the city. In the 1970s, it is seen that Kavaklıdere has started to have characteristic of new sub center. In this study, the Office Buildings built after 1950, which indicating significant turning point, are focused by revealing the spatial formations and central characteristics of Ulus Center, Kizilay Center and Kavaklıdere Subcenter. In the scope of the study, the Office Buildings are examined and documented within the specified time interval; in terms of social and economic fractures, development process of the city, centres' development, legal and administrative legislation, and periodic architectural approaches. The Office Buildings are classified by considering their close environment, relations with the street and avenue, variety of use, plan construct, functions, innovations and pioneering roles. The Office Buildings in Ankara are crucial in terms of period documentation as they are associated with the center where they are located and affecting the transformation of the center as well as being affected of this transformation. This study, which covers the typological classification and determination of current status of Office Buildings, will be a base for the studies to be carried out after it, with these qualifications.
