Pollen analysis and investigation of antimicrobiyal effect of honey collected from various region of Ankara

Abstract (EN)

In this study, 30 honey samples were obtained from Ankara city market,and their pollen grains analysis and antimicrobial effect wereinvestigated. Pollens have been identified 46 taxa, 35 of which were atfamily level, and 11 were at genus level in 27 honey samples. 3 honeysamples were artificial and haven?t been found pollen in this honeys.The pollen grains of Fabaceae, Aceraceae, Boraginaceae, Poaceae,Asteraceae, Apiaceae, Caryophyllaceae, Rosaceae, Hedysarumsp.,Brassicaceae, Fagaceae have been found to be the dominant andsecondary group while the pollen grains of Plantago sp., Cistaceae,Geraniaceae, Cucurbitaceae, Liliaceae, Caryophyllaceae, Rumex sp.,Plantaginaceae, Campanulaceae, Salicaceae,Echium sp.,Chenopodiaceae, Lamiaceae, Ericaceae identified as the minor groupand the remaining taxa are defined as the rare groups.The antimicrobial activity of honey samples was evaluated by an invitro study testing the growth against indicator patogen bacteria. Theantimicrobial activity of honey samples has been measured by the useof nutrient agar well diffusion techniques. Honey samples which havepollen grains, has been applied effect of inhibition againstStaphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Shigellasonnei, Listeria monocytogenes, Klebsiella pneumonia bacteria. Thediameter of the zone of bacterial growth inhibition is measured afterincubation of the plates. Antimicrobial effect has frequency beendetermined by honey samples which Asteraceae, Rosaceae, Poaceae,Apiaceae, Fabaceae pollen grains.Honey samples which included 44-45% Asteraceae pollen grains weremore effective on Staphylococcus aureus bacteria than the other honeysamples. Honey samples which included 26 % Rosaceae and 21 %Poaceae pollen grains honey sample were more effective on Salmonellatyphi bacteria than the other honey samples. Honey samples whichincluded 49 % Apiaceae and %31 Rosaceae pollen grains honeysample were more effective on Escherichia coli bacteria than the otherhoney samples. Honey samples which included 45 % Asteraceaepollen grains honey sample were more effective on Shigella sonnei andListeria monocytogenes bacteria than the other honey samples..Honeysamples which included 49 % Apiaceae - 31 % Rosaceae pollen grainshoney sample was more effective on Klebsiella pneumonia bacteriathan the other honey samples.And all of the used bacteria were more effected by honey sampleswhich concentrated Fabaceae pollen grains.
